Abstract
The deep sea is the largest and least understood ecosystem on Earth. Nevertheless, the ocean floor could soon become the site of deep seabed mining operations. Efforts to develop an appropriate regulatory framework are well under way. Greater transparency will be critical to safeguarding ocean sustainability.
